Unit 3 - Conflict Styles

In unit 3, we discussed the 4 conflict styles which include, avoiding, accommodating, collaborative and competing. The collaborative conflict style is when the person is trying to be cooperative and considerate of the others involved. I believe I am more of a collaborative person. For example, when me and my friend write music, we constantly have issues with what the other person likes. We don't like much of the same music and want different things out of every song, so it can become a hassle, but in the end we find a way to compromise our way into a good situation.

I have been in bands with very uncooperative people. For example, I was in a band that had LITERALLY the same formula for every song. They wanted every part of the song to be 4 bars long, but when I would tell them it made us sound too predictable, they wouldn't listen. Needless to say, I left.

Unit 2 - Diversity

From Unit 2 I have learned that diversity is always a great thing, but cultural differences can get in the way. Based on discussions and group 2's case study, I have been reminded of a situation from 2 years ago. My 2nd year on UK's Rugby Team, one of our senior players brought out a new player from South Africa. His name was Sebastian and he played Flyhalf (which is like your "quarterback"). Whenever we come across a foreign player, we all get excited because foreign players are typically good. (FYI: I have never met a bad player from South Africa.) So when Sebastian starts running plays at practice, he isn't the greatest communicator which means that we had a few issues with him. UK is a very vocal team and if someone (this someone being out "quarterback") isn't talking, it hurts our chemistry. Instead of telling us what he wanted, he would just snap his fingers...literally.

So in conclusion, it was great to play with someone who had grown up with the sport, but at the same time, our cultural differences got in the way and he didn't come back after only dressing for one game.
